Annie Lou Crumpton

Annie Lou Blankenship Crumpton, 100, of Mount Hope passed away Friday, December 10, 2021 at her home. Visitation will be from 1 till 2 p.m. on Monday, December 13, 2021 at Mount Hope United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the church with Elliott Gordon and Rachel Blankenship officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home assisting with arrangements.

Born on April 26, 1921 to the late Flemin and Ida Marie Jenkins Morrison, Annie Lou graduated from Mount Hope High School and was an active member of Mount Hope Methodist Church all her life, where she served as Church Treasurer until 2018. She loved quilting, traveling, puzzles, watching the Atlanta Braves, cooking for her family, gardening and canning. Annie Lou loved working all of her life; she worked as a bookkeeper for the Mount Hope Cotton Gin for a number of years, and later took a job as an Aide with Lawrence County Hospital. In 1981 she went to work for the Commission on Aging and worked for 34 years, retiring at the age of 94.

Survivors include her children, Peggy Chapman (Kenneth), James “Buddy” Blankenship (Judy), Anthony Blankenship (Rachel), and Steve Blankenship (Lora); 15 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and 26 great-great grandchildren.

Annie Lou was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Joseph Willard Blankenship; second husband, Herman Crumpton; sons, Jerry Lee Blankenship, and Danny Blankenship; and siblings, Nan Morrison, John Allen Morrison, and Jane Tucker.

Pallbearers will be Kelly Blankenship, Winston Nolen, Barry Blankenship, Colton Blankenship, Eric Chapman, and Hunter Brown. Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family extends special thanks to Comfort Care Hospice of Decatur and Shirley Abbott.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mount Hope Methodist Church and Cemetery Fund.
