Dayton Jones

Dayton Newell Jones, 80, of Moulton, Alabama passed away Thursday, June 5, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his family and friends. The graveside service will be at 5:00 PM on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at Moreland Cemetery with Bro Toney Pepper and Bro. Roger Jones officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Dayton was born on April 3, 1945, to Leonard and Mamie Jones. Dayton loved his family, especially his grandkids. He said "he knew when he had grand babies that's why they're called grand -- because that's exactly what they are "GRAND!". Dayton loved entertaining and playing his guitar whether it was on the porch at Smith Lake, or on the stage at the local Hee Haw show. Dayton was a card shark. He loved a good game of Rook or Texas hold 'em. Mr. Jones was saved and baptized at Corinth Missionary Baptist Church where he served for many years.

Dayton leaves behind one daughter, Melissa Patterson; two grandchildren, Mallory Dike (Joey) and Becca Patterson; three great-grandchildren, Millie Patterson, Drake Patterson, and Easton Dike; two sisters, Sandra Givens and Sharlynn Hopkins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Mamie Jones; his wife of 54 years, Margaret Smith Jones; son-in-law, Barry Patterson; and one grandson, Clay Patterson.

Pallbearers will be Joey Dike, Glenn Copeland, Davy Terry, Jody Jones, Bill Barrett and Keith Ligon.

The family extends special thanks to Diana Copeland,his neighbor who was like a second daughter, his special and loving caretakers Gail Sivley and Sherry Haynes, and Hospice of the Valley.
