Mr. Dwight Wayne "Pete" Bates, 73, of Danville, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024 at Decatur Morgan Hospital Decatur, AL. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Lawrence Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Johnson Cemetery.

Born on September 4, 1950 to the late Ettery and Lola Jackson Bates, Pete enjoyed deer hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his daughter, Shawneri Kelsoe; step-son, Brock (Kasey) Rooks; grandchildren, Skyler (Hillary) Kelsoe, and Katlin Kelsoe; step grandson, Wheeler Rooks; great-grandson, Brooks Kelsoe; sisters, Lois Lowery, and Delores Robbins; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Dwight was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James "Bud" Bates, and James "John" Bates; and sister, Audrey Borden.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Lowery, Jamie Lowery, Bobby LoweryShannon Robbins, Jason Robbins, Tim Curry, Trent Curry, and Jeremy Bates.

Special thanks are given to the nurses and staff at Decatur Morgan Hospital and all of Pete's family for their love and care.
