Farris Burney

Weldon Burney, 86, of Muscle Shoals, Alabama passed away Friday, December 5, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loved ones. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Monday, December 8, 2025, at Lawrence Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Monday, December 8, 2025, at Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald Borden officiating. Burial will be at Providence Cemetery.

Born on December 4, 1939, to T.M. and Cora Sue Lovett Burney, Weldon was an avid Alabama fan. He spent many years coaching peewee youth football for 22 years, and led the kids to a championship 21 times of those years. In his younger years he enjoyed drag racing and bowling. Weldon was a 46 year member of Washington Masonic Lodge #36. He was also a member of Leighton O.E.S. #239, and a member of Washington Park Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 64 and a half years, Mavis Morris Burney ; children, Vince (Deanna) Burney and Teresa Burney; grandchildren, Joseph "Red" Burney, Becky (Micheal) Lathan, Drew (Tori) Green, Justin Green, and Abbie (Ashley) Green; great-grandchildren, Weston Burney, Graydon Fike, Wesley Green, Gabby Fike, Karsyn Burney, Jessa Latham, Kohn Green, Ellie Green, Addie Green, and Hayden Green; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Weldon was preceded in death by his parents, T.M. and Cora Sue Burney; brothers, Arlen Burney, Darriel Burney, and Murphy Burney.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Burney, Drew Green, Justin Green, Weston Burney, Graydon Fike, and Wesley Green.

The family extends special thanks to Alabama Hospice of the Shoals, especially Danielle and Angelia. We would also like to give a special thanks to Ms. Annette Puckett and Patrick Morris.
