Lawana June Pitts, 91, of Moulton, Alabama passed away Monday, May 5, 2025, at her daughter's house surrounded by her loved ones, in Hartselle, AL. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Thursday, May 08, 2025, at Moulton Baptist Church. The Celebration of Life service will be at 12:00 PM on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Moulton Baptist Church with Dr. Jesse Reeder and Bro. Mark Wakefield officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing. Burial will be at Mt Pleasant Cemetery in Brilliant, AL.
Born on June 22, 1933, to Chesley and Maggie Thompson Huguley. Lawana retired as the Director of the Department of Human Resources in Lawrence County, and also retired from Lawrence Medical Center as a social worker at the young age of 90. She was a Sunday School Teacher at Moulton Baptist Church, and an active member of the JOY club of Moulton Baptist. Lawana enjoyed knitting, crocheting, watching the Crimson Tide, cooking, helping those in need in her community, and spending time with her friends and family. Through her lifetime she touched many lives and will be deeply missed.
Survivors include her daughter, Roxie (Dave) Young; grandchildren, April (Adam) Brackin, Chase (Miranda) Suggs, Jonathan Taylor, Derrick (Brooke) Taylor, Chris (Stephanie) Young, Angie (Bo) Simmons, Pam (Charlie) Boyd, and Melissa (The Late Sam) Rizzo; fifteen great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren; one brother, Tony Huguley; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Lawana was preceded in death by her spouse, Wesley "Sonny" Pitts Jr.; parents, Chesley and Maggie Huguley; one son, Robert Taylor; one brother, Doug Huguley; one sister, Clytee "Sissy" Huguley.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family extends special thanks to Gentiva Hospice, Doctor Buckner's office, and Doctor Gladish's office.
