Mack Kidd

Pvt Mack Kidd, 20, of Dry Branch West Virginia was Killed in Action in Myitkyina, Burma on Wednesday, July 12, 1944. Mack was born on January 7, 1924 to Jesse and Edith Allison Kidd. Mack entered into service on September 23, 1943 and volunteered for the 5307th Composite Unit supplemental group as a part of New Galahad, later known as Merrill's Marauders. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze star and Purple Heart; along with many other recognitions.

The public is welcome to attend and pay tribute to a fallen hero whose homecoming, though delayed, is no less honored. Visitation will be from 10 am to 4 pm on Friday, July 25 and from 10 am to 1 pm on Saturday, July 26 at Lawrence Funeral Home. The funeral service with full military honors will be graveside at 3 pm on Saturday, July 26 at Friendship Cemetery on County Road 84 in Danville, Alabama where he will be laid to rest beside his daughter with Pastor Bobby Dodd officiating.

Survivors include his son's wife, Donna Parsons Kidd; grandchildren, Melinda (David) Cleghorn, Melanie (Ron) Wilhelm, Marlena Gail (Steve) Tucker, Jeff Kidd, and Kim (Keith) Roughton; great-grandchildren, Amanda (William) Black, Andrew (Wendy) Cleghorn, Nicholas (Tiffany) Cleghorn, Hollie (Patrick) Waid, Megan (Jake) Whitfield, Steven Tucker, Nella (Josh) Martin, Sunni (Jake) Johnson, Libby Williams, and George Roughton; half-brother, Jack Kidd; and numerous great-great grandchildren, and extended family who never had the chance to know him in life, and will now honor him in death with the dignity and recognition he so deeply deserves.

Mack was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Henry Kidd; mother, Edith Allison Kidd; wife, Gwendolyn Jackson Peters; daughter, Sonja Kidd Jackson and her husband, Hershel Jackson; son, Ronald Kidd; sisters, Bonnie Atkins, Maxine Post, Learline Townsend, and Juanita Smith; brother, Frank Kidd; half-brothers, James Kidd, Dan Kidd, and Jerry Kidd; half-sisters, Charlotte Chaffin, Ruby Bradley, Rosie Hancock, and Dreama Holley; and great-granddaughter, Haley Cleghorn.

Pallbearers will be members of the US Army Funeral Honors Team.

The family extends special thanks to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), The Tennessee State Troopers, Alabama State Troopers, Commander Phil Terry with American Legion Post 25 in Moulton, along with all of the American Legion and VFW posts, and the law enforcement and fire departments from Nashville to Moulton who helped organize and support the procession to bring Pvt. Mack Kidd home. We would also like to acknowledge all of the local businesses and organizations that helped along the way.
