It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we share the passing of Mark Dwight Anderton, affectionately known as Big Bird, who left us peacefully on November 27, 2025. Mark was one of those people who made life better just by being around-steady, funny, genuine, and always ready to help anyone in need.
Mark was born on July 16, 1969, in Lawrence County. He spent his life working hard, loving deeply, and showing up for the people who mattered most. He was employed by BBI, where he built a successful career in construction as a scaffold builder and formed lifelong friendships, earning the respect and admiration of everyone he worked alongside.
Mark's proudest role was being a father. His daughter, Elizabeth Grace, was his whole world. Mark was the person you called for a good laugh or just to sit together in silence and enjoy his always funny remarks. His favorite moments were the simple ones-spending time with Gracie, cheering for Alabama football, and going out to eat. Those were the things that brought him the most joy.
He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Grace Anderton, of Danville, who will miss him more than words can ever express; his mother, Mildred Racine Anderton; his brother, Jimmy Anderton (Gina); and the love of his life - Kelli Holmes. He was preceded in death by his father, Leon Anderton, who surely welcomed him home with open arms.
A celebration of Mark's life will be held on Wednesday, December 03, 2025 at 5:00 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 5:00.
