Mikan Kerby, 71, of Mt. Hope passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at Helen Keller Hospital. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM till 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at Lawrence Funeral Home with Bro. Ronald Oliver and Bro. Trevor Hallmark officiating. The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Gargis Cemetery.
Born April 2, 1950 to Lois and Opal Kerby, Mikan was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He was retired from Kerby’s Insurance Company and was an avid hunter, fisherman, farmer and gardener. He was member of the Lawrence County Sports Hall of Fame. He loved watching Alabama Football and especially loved watching his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in all of their activities. He played Basketball at Mt. Hope High School and Northwest College. He loved his family gatherings and spending time with his family and friends. Mikan was a member of Prairie Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He had a heart the size of gold and would help anyone that needed help. Mikan enjoyed his retirement and loved his gossip buddies at the store.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Jackie Kerby, two sons; Jamie Kerby and Wesley Kerby, three daughters; Wendy Kerby, Ashley Kerby and Stormy Vinson, fifteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, one brother; Jimmy Kerby and two sisters; Rachel Roden and Peggy Sims.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Wade Kerby and Danny Kerby, one sister; Faylene Shellnut, and one granddaughter; Kerby Stancil.
Pallbearers will be Jerald Kerby, Joel Kerby, Darrin Kerby, Chris Kerby, Lanier Sibley and David Shellnut.
The family extends special thanks to Lanier Sibley for his friendship with Mikan and his love and kindness shown over the years and especially during his illness.
