Paul Wayne Sutton

Paul Wayne Sutton, 89, of Mount Hope, has flown away, on the bright morning of September 6, 2026.

He met his reward holding the hand of his beloved wife Donnie. Wayne left peacefully, in the home where he and Donnie raised their five children.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 08, 2026, at Lawrence Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Lawrence Funeral Home with Bro. Jonathan Henderson and Bro. Shane Pate officiating. Burial will be at Moulton Memory Gardens.

Wayne was born on May 24, 1937, to the late Paul and Beatrice Holland Sutton.

Wayne's surviving legacy includes include his wife of 69 years, Donnie Bruton Sutton; children, Joel (Kristie) Sutton, Shannon (Karen) Sutton, and Angie (Marty) Reeves; grandchildren, Leslie (Mike) Behring, Cassidy (Jamie) Sutton, Katy (Aaron) Earnest, Amber Sutton, Journey (Dakota) Hilliard, Jordan (Daniel) Jones, Anna (Trevor) Garrison, and Sarah (Dalton) Sparks; great-grandchildren, Chloe Smith, Paisley Sutton, Delaney Sutton, Audrey Sutton, Abel Behring, Ezra Behring, Trace Garrison, Jackson Garrison, Zayde Roberson, Brazlee Gatlin, Addie Hollis, Sutton Jones, Isaac Jones, and Samson Jones; sisters, Paulette (James) Ramsey, and Karen Mullins; brothers, Raymon (Arlene) Sutton, and Truman (Fredia) Sutton; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family. His family loves him dearly and attended him in his final days.

Wayne is surely rejoicing to be reunited with his parents; sons, Lamar Sutton, and Brad Sutton; granddaughter, Marlee Sutton; sister, Vernell Bradford Parker; and brother-in-law, Jerry Mullins.

Pallbearers will be close family and friends.

Wayne was a lifelong member of Harris Chapel Church of God of Prophecy. Though his seat on the end of the second pew is empty, the impact he left upon his church as a deacon, a member of The Gideons International, and a member of the Happy Sounds Quartette will be felt for generations.

Wayne was known for his tireless work ethic, a trait his children and grandchildren are proud to inherit. He could be found riding happily upon a tractor, and often enough, unhappily beneath one.

Throughout his career, Wayne was more than a farmer of hay and cattle. He served as Lawrence County commissioner; a role perfectly suited for his love of conversation and coffee. Wayne's name is proudly spoken throughout his community.

Wayne spent many years at the City of Moulton Water Department, served as the general manager of the West Lawrence Water Department, and was an honored member of the Moulton Volunteer Fire Department. In his own words, his most fulfilling work was as an assistant funeral director at Lawrence Funeral Home.

Oh, how glad and happy we will be to meet Wayne again. When we too make it to that home on God's celestial shore.

The family extends special thanks to Dr. John Irle and all of Wayne's nurses and the staff with Hospice of the Valley, especially Elana Clemons and Carla Brantley; along with Wayne's caregivers, Celeste Harris and Angela Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Gideons International or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
