Peggy Ann Hazle, 83, of Courtland, Alabama passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at Decatur Morgan Hospital Decatur, AL. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Lawrence Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Lawrence Funeral Home with Scotty Letson officiating. Burial will be at Courtland Cemetery.
Born on September 16, 1942, to George and Doris Cole Givens, Peggy was a lifelong resident, tenured employee, and volunteer for the Town of Courtland. She served as the City Clerk for 25 years. After retiring, she continued to serve her community by participating in the Courtland Community Revitalization Committee, serving a term as its president. She continued to give her time to her community after the loss of her only daughter, Ginny Jaggers. Her love for Courtland and the returned love and support she received will forever be a part of her memory.
To know Peggy was to know how proud she was of her family. It was no coincidence Courtland was where her and Harmon started a family of their own. From annual city picnics, to grandchildren's games and recitals, she was there early to get the good seats and take pictures... that would most certainly be shared with her friends. Her home was always warm with family for any occasion. She was a wife, a mother, and grandmother, and a great-grandmother to a family who loves her.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Harmon Hazle; son-in-law, Jerome Jaggers; grandsons, Gil (Samantha) Jaggers, Jordan (Marianne) Jaggers; great-grandchildren, Ellis Jaggers, Wallace Jaggers, Millie Jaggers, George Jaggers, Hank Jaggers, and Virginia Jaggers; and several extended family members.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, George and Doris Givens; daughter, Ginny Jaggers.
Pallbearers will be Gil Jaggers, Jordan Jaggers, Hoot Gibson, Kyle Mangum, Scott Norwood, and Don Hazle.
Honorary Pallbearers are Lee Hitt and John McGregor
The family extends special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Decatur Morgan Hospital. Also, the family would like to thank the community of Courtland, and the surrounding areas for their love and support.
