Price Edwin Hood, 88, of Moulton, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, December 02, 2025 at Lawrence Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at the funeral home with Bro. Josh Horton, and Bro. Scott Delashaw officiating. Burial will be at Rutherford Cemetery.
Born on October 5, 1937 to the late Robert and Mable Johnson Hood, Edwin was a deacon at Gum Springs Baptist Church and a member of United Steelworkers Local 200. He was a jack of all trades and a master chicken stew maker, a skill he took great joy in passing on to his sons, grandsons, and great-grandsons. He loved the hours spent around the old cast iron pot with his boys.
Papa, as he was lovingly called by his family, wore many hats. He was carpenter, mechanic, plumber, electrician, gardener, and amateur veterinarian for hurt or sick animals. Edwin was counselor, advisor, comforter, a strong shoulder to lean on, or just a listening ear. Whatever his family needed at the time, that's what he was. He could do it all.
Clarence Budington Kelland once wrote, "My father didn't tell me how to live; he lived and let me watch him do it." That's what Papa did. He was a Godly example of honor and integrity. He loved God and his family with all his heart. He and his wife would have celebrated 70 years together on the 29th of December this year. Papa will be greatly missed by the many who loved him so very much.
Survivors include his wife Daphine Hood; children, Steve (Tina) Hood, Jackie (Twila) Hood, Jamie Hood, Tiffany (Benjamin) Phillips, and Edwina (Phillip) Ghrigsby; grandchildren, Seth Hood, Micah (Michelle) Hood, Daniel (Brittney) Hood, Brandon (Heather) Hood, Nick (Lakin) Hood, Jared (Jodie) Hood, Lydia (Nate) Hood, Zach (Jamie) Ghrigsby, Erin Johnson, Evan (Lacey) Ghrigsby, Halle Grace (Trey) Steadman, and Noah Phillips; 26 great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald (Brenda) Hood, and Curtis (Martha) Hood; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert Hood, Jr., Carlton Hood, Harold Hood, and Tommy Hood; sisters, Nadine Cameron, Josephine Parker, and Baby Clareren Hood.
Pallbearers will be Papa's grandchildren with his great-grandchildren serving as honorary pallbearers.
The family extends special thanks to Papa's doctor, Rodney Harney, nurses, Jamie Ghrigsby, CRNP, Jan Parton, and Amy McGuire, along with Kris Long.
