Wendell Irvin Shields Sr., 78, of Mount Hope, AL, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2026 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 07, 2026 at Lawrence Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM at the funeral home with John Marshall officiating. Burial will be at Mount Hope Methodist Cemetery.
Born on January 11, 1948 in Moulton to the late Raymond and Letha Nolen Shields, Wendell loved hunting, and fishing. He was a dedicated Atlanta Braves fan and an avid Alabama fan. Wendell was a truck driver for over 50 years after driving a school bus in his younger years. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grand and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Brenda Gayle Shields; children, Wendell Shields, Jr., Raymond (Tara) Shields, Wendy (Scotty G.) Terry, Jason (Robin Jones) Shields; grandchildren, Courtney, Samantha, Chealsee, Kayla, Chris, Crystal, Anthony, Rachel, Audrey, Spencer, Michael, Jason, and Destiney; many great-grandchildren; sister, Irene (Harlon) Farrar; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Pallbearers will be Raymond Shields, Jason Shields, Josh Head, David Head, Kevin Ragen and Zaylen Scott.
The family extends special thanks to Keller Home Health and his ICU nurses and doctors at Decatur Morgan for their wonderful care.
