Obituary

James “Donnie” McAfee, 78, of Mount Hope passed away Monday, February 28, 2022 at UAB Hospital. Visitation will be from 11 am till 1 pm on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at Lawrence Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 1 pm at the funeral home with OD Bowling officiating. Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens.

Born on June 22, 1943 to the late Aulcie and Mamie McAfee, Donnie served in the Army National Guard and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He attended Arley Church of Christ for several years with his late wife, Judy McAfee. Donnie will be remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, and friend.

Survivors include his children, Greg McAfee (Heather) and Emily Bolan (Tim); grandchildren, Emma, Carter, Lucas, and Dale; great-granddaughter, Adeline Davis; sister, Kathy McAfee; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Donnie was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and infant brother, Jerry McAfee.

Pallbearers will be Lucas McAfee, Carter McAfee, Dale Davis, Donnie Mitchell, Johnny Mitchell, Brett Daniel, Hutson Hatton, Tim Yarbrough, and Dana Yarbrough.

The family extends special thanks to his nurses and the staff in CICU at UAB.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
